- To make a difference in someone’s life
- What keeps you up at night?
- It’s sometimes hard to know that there are so many newcomers or low-income families that are in immediate need, and because of lack of knowledge, and the barrier of language, they are not able to access them as they need.
- What gives you hope?
- Think that together we can make more to grow as a community to support the most in need
- If you could wave your magic wand, what is the first thing you would change or add?

- My name is Laura Pamela Reyes. I am grateful for being part of the Highland community for about nine years. I assisted and supported around 300 to 400 families yearly, whose children attend our school, providing community resources, being the bridge between the teachers and families when language is a barrier to communication. I have created events, such as Family engagement night, with agencies as fierce advocates with classes for parents to learn more about community agencies and get support for the whole family. l have worked in opening opportunities for the families and their students to thrive in education by educating parents about School System through PTA programs as School Smarts (Parent University), while some families might be newcomers and don’t have the basic Knowledge of the system and resources as, transportation, information on how to get food assistance, health assistance or support from the community agencies in the area or county or might not know the existence of them. We also partner with our community agencies, inviting them to join us at our monthly Highland Parent Cafe meetings, to provide services such as Free vaccination clinics, immigration workshops, Mental health classes, etc. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
