What is the SPED CLC?
Throughout the United States, there are more than 13,000 districts governed by about 95,000 school board members. Annually, these elected leaders manage approximately $640 billion that impact more than 48,000,000 students. In addition to fiscal oversight, school board members are also responsible for developing and adopting policies, curriculum, and the budget, employing the superintendent, overseeing facilities issues, and adopting collective bargaining agreements.
The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Board of Education currently has five board members. November 2020 was the first election cycle where school board members in West Contra Costa were elected by wards, and not at-large.
